Did you know...

...a soapbox car (also variously known as a soapbox cart, and especially in Australia, billy cart) is a motorless vehicle capable of holding a driver (usually a child) built for the purpose of racing or recreation. Propelled by gravity, soapbox cars can reach upwards of 50 km/h (30 miles per hour). Originally, soapbox cars were built from wooden soap (or orange) crates and rollerskate wheels, but have grown more sophisticated over time, with materials like aluminum and fiberglass being utilized.

Welcome to missionsoapbox.com!

The Mission & District Soapbox Derby Association was incorporated in October of 2000 as a non-profit association for the historical Mission Soapbox Derby. Our executive and members live and work in Mission and the surrounding communities. We rely upon local businesses for corporate sponsorship, including the District of Mission.

Over 150 volunteers are needed to help organize and participate in this event. This is a community event and without the support of community groups, businesses and private citizens, this event would not be possible.

The next Mission Soapbox Derby will be held on
Saturday June 19, 2010
starting at 9am
We encourage everyone to come to Mission to watch the races and participate in other fun events:

  • Races boys and girls 8-14 yrs
